As of August 2022 the Indonesian government requires both the Ministry of Environment and Local Administrations to monitor the water quality in all main national rivers.
As of August 2022 the Indonesian government requires both the Ministry of Environment and Local Administrations to monitor the water quality in all main national rivers. In response, 91 stations with s::can products were implemented all around the country. These monitor the water quality, provide information and strengthen the early warning system for the community.
The parameters measured are COD, BOD, TSS, Turbidity and Nitrates, as well as pH, DO, Ammonium, TDS/Conductivity/Salinity.
As most parameters are measured by a spectrometer this setup reduces the maintenance needs, therefore also reducing the number of onsite visits. This has a large impact on the station running costs and saves a significant amount in the long run.
As the conditions all over the country are quite different, two individual measurement processes were chosen:
1. A direct or submerged method was used if it met the following criteria:
-There is a concrete structure available at the location
-The river flow is stable
-There is no turbulence and no flooding potential given
2. An automatic pump system was installed which pumps samples from the river into a measurement station and then back into the river.

Indonesia now has a real-time picture of water quality in its rivers due to these stations, enabling quick response time if needed.
